WHAT WE DO

WHY PROWUS HELPS

With current levels of public school funding, the arts are the first to suffer, and parents must look outside of school for arts education. Often times this extracurricular instruction is financially out of reach for Portland families. It is our goal to assist in making music education accessible to all who want it.

OUR MISSION

PROWUS -- Portland Rock on With Us -- is a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 organization that provides grants for music students age 8 to 18 in the greater Portland Metro area who are pursuing extra-curricular music education of all genres, including Classical, Jazz, Rock, etc. Operated by a volunteer board with connections to the music community, PROWUS builds its grant fund with proceeds from donations, merchandise sales and fundraising events.

HOW PROWUS STARTED

PROWUS was founded in a Portland music school waiting room by a group of concerned parents in 2009. These parents had witnessed first-hand the transformative power of music in their children's lives and decided to band together to do what they could to help every kid get a chance to find their song.

PROWUS functions through the work of a volunteer Board of Directors, who not only administer the scholarship process, but perform fundraising through events and programs, and connect with other organizations and schools (for- and non-profit), increasing the ability to grant scholarships to as many students as possible.

Board of Directors meetings are held monthly through the school year. Elections for Board members are held annually at the November Board meeting, for the following positions (click link for job description):

President

Vice President

Secretary

Treasurer

Scholarship Administrator

Member At-Large

PROWUS is always looking for volunteers to help!
